Each post and page has a few options that control how that post/page will look if it’s listed on a page like the home page (although it applies to anywhere it’s listed using one of our custom blocks: Unique Posts or Specific posts/pages).
You can use these options to control two main things:
- The featured image
- The headline
The settings can be found in right settings panel in the Documents tab under the heading Home page layout (you might have to click that heading to expand the options).
Primary image
Image crop
The Home page image crop setting lets you easily crop your featured image so that it will work with the standard home page layout (i.e., with an aspect ratio of 16:9). This also helps with previews on social networks.
To add a cropped image, click the Add image button.
Select an image. It can be the same one as the featured image (and usually should be). Click the “Select” button
In the window that pops up (which can take a moment), use the white box to select the area of the image you want to use.
- Click and drag the dots in the corners or on the edge of the box to change its size.
- Click and drag in the middle of the box to move it around.
- You can change the size, but not the aspect ratio (by design)
When you’re happy with the selection, click Crop in the lower right.
It will often take a moment to crop the image.
Automatically using the cropped image for the featured image
If the box underneath the cropped image is checked (as it is by default) when you save or update the post and there’s no featured image, the original (uncropped) version of the image you just selected will be used for the main featured image as well.
This is almost always what you want, so no need to separately select the featured image unless you have a specific reason to want it to be different.
Headline
You can also set a different headline (i.e., different than the page title) for listings on other pages.
The setting for this is under Headline below the image crop.
To set a custom headline, unselect that box and enter your custom headline in the Home page headline field that appears.
