We’ve contracted with the State of Alaska Supreme Court to caption our Oral Arguments. To do this, we are using a third party company Speechpad to transcribe the video after it has been ingested, titled and placed in the Invintus archive. There are x main steps.
- Determine which videos need to be captioned in Invintus
- Upload the video from Invintus to Speechpad
- Send the invoice to Christy so that she has record of it
- Once Speechpad has completed the captioning (after a week)
- Download the appropriate caption files from Speechpad
- Upload the appropriate caption files to Invintus
- Test that the video has the correct caption and that everything is working
Below are the details for steps involved in each of the above steps.
Determine which videos need to be captioned in Invintus
- Logon to Invintus
- Select the Events page
- choose “Category” from the “Select Parameter dropdown.
- Type in Alaska Supreme Court Oral Arguments
- Select the Start Date and End Date for which time period you need to work with
- Then click the Search Glass next to Alaska Supreme Court Oral Arguments as shown in the picture below
This will present you with a list of Supreme Court Oral Arguments with which to work with. Once you have identified a court case that you need to have captioned, click on the pencil on the far right of the page as highlighted in the picture below.
This will present you with the Assets page, from which you can select the download button for the mp4 file (in order to upload it Speechpad in the next step).
As you download the files be sure to name the appropriately so that you can later easily upload them again to the correct case. (For example when downloading from Invintus it is a long name like 2397b15b8f0052…mp4 so I would rename that file to something like AKSC170221B_Whittenton.mp4 ). Repeat these steps until you have downloaded all the files that you’ll be submitting for this batch.
Once you have all the files that you’ll be uploading for this batch, it is time to upload them to Speechpad.
Upload the video from Invintus to Speechpad
- Logon to Speechpad (www.speechpad.com) username ______________ password _______________
- From the main Speechpad page, select “Upload Files from Computer” from the main menu (or the “Upload Files from Computer” button).

- Once you have selected each of the files for this batch you’ll want to press the “Start Uplaod” button. Note: While the files are uplaoding don’t close this window)

- Once the files have uploaded, check each of the uploaded files, select Standard Captions, One Week, and Submit Order as shown below:

- Once the order has been submitted, you will get a confirmation and taken to the Processing tab.
Send the invoice to Christy (cc Bill & Lisa) so that they have record of it – Update Spreadsheet
Now that the order has been submitted, a copy of the invoice should be sent to Christy, Bill and Lisa. To do this follow these steps:
- Select “KELLI” in the upper right hand corner, then select Account Settings.
- When in My Account – General select “Orders”, from the list of orders, click on the order just submitted.

- When it is presented to the screen, select “Download as PDF”.

- Save the file as a PDF File and email it to Christy Hartman and also cc Bill Legere, and Lisa Purves.
- After sending the PDF file, it is important to update the spreadsheet in the N:\Gavel_Gavel\CourtsCC\GavelAlaskaSupremeCourts-CC_LOG.xlsx file with the information about the court case (title, date, length, cost, submitted (to speechpad.com) and posted dates.
Now that the files have been submitted and Christy, Lisa and Bill have a copy of the invoice, it will be a week or sometimes less at which point you will be able to get the caption files to upload them to Invintus (as described in the steps below).
Once Speechpad has completed the captioning (after a week)
You will likely get an email notifying you that the captioning is complete. Once you get that, or once you notice they are done, below are the steps for putting those caption files into Invintus.
