Adding Multiple Feeds & Air Dates for the News Block

Every three months or so it is time to add multiple feeds and schedule the news block. Generally I add about 3 moths worth at a time.

To do so, you need to do three main steps. 1. Do a PBS Feed Search, 2. Schedule them for Air & Feed, and 3. Add and Attach media for the records.

1. Do a PBS Feed Search

From the main menu, select Programs | View PBS Feed Schedule or press the Feed Schedule button from the main PROTRACK TV Dialogue.

PBSFeedSchedule

Since we have four recurring regular News-block shows (BBC World News America, Newsline, BBC World News, and BBC Newsnight), I will put the four dialogues with the appropriate data into it, then go through the steps needed to add each of them separately after.

Nightly Business Report

Enter the appropriate dates and then enter the rest of the data as shown in the highlighted picture below.

Verify that the list of feeds looks correct. If so, from the PBS Feed Schedule Listing dialogue press F10 or Edit | Mark All. This places an asterisk next to each entry so that you can perform an action on more than one item at a time.  Now press Tools | Schedule AIr (F1).

ScheduleAirDate

In the next step, you will Schedule air dates for the feeds, as well as schedule the feeds to record. From the Feed – Schedule Air Dates enter the following data:

  • Offset Airs: 0 Days 03:00:00 Hours
  • Virtual Channel: 360N
  • Schedule FEEDs: Y
  • Schedule Record/Transfer: Y
  • OK
  • Yes (Date is Correct)
  • Yes (Start Insert)
  • You should get a dialogue that confirms the dates have been Inserted for Air and for Feed.

Once it has completed you will get a confirmation dialogue stating that both the Airdates and Feeds were successfully inserted.

Add & Attach Media

At this point, you should add media for the dates listed.  Follow these steps:

From the PBS FEED SCHEDULE dialogue highlight the first feed in the list and press Tools | Assign Media (F12).

From the Media Information dialogue, press, Edit | Insert (F1)

Once in the Add Media Attachment dialogue, select the following:

  • Start by: Record Date
  • End by: Rights
  • Link Type: Server
  • OK

Verify that the Media ID is correct (I typically remove the H on the end of it because these are down-converted and recorded as SD 16×9 full frame, but it isn’t critical). If all is correct, select OK then CTRL+F4 to close the Media Information dialogue. (Repeat these Add & Attach Media steps above moving the selection down to the next feed for each individual Feed (yes, incredibly repetitive and tedious).

You’ll need to modify the Air Date Length field to 26:46 for each Nightly Business Report that you scheduled. Otherwise you’ll play 28:00 (which will include a promo and bars).

Newsline

From the main menu select Programs | View PBS Feed Schedule

Enter the appropriate dates and then enter the rest of the data as shown in the highlighted picture below.
