Adding Multiple Feeds / Airs of Alaska Weather

Once a year (or every three months or so) it is more efficient to add a year or a few months worth of weather feeds and air dates (when you schedule the air dates it will automatically insert program records). If done at the same time, it takes a little longer every year or three months, but it is worth the time investment for the rest of your schedules.

There are three main processes that you need to do, below are the specific steps and information with each process. 1. Add Multiple Feed Dates, 2. Schedule Multiple Air Dates (which will create a new season and the appropriate records), and 3. Add and attach media for each.

1. Add Multiple Feed Dates

Type Programs | Feed Date Maintenance | Add Multiple Feed Dates

AddMultiFeeds

You will be presented with a dialogue to ask which series to add, you’ll enter AKWEA in the Series code.

Select Alaska Weather Daily as it is presented in the dialogue.

Once you’ve selected it and the correct season for which you will be adding, you’ll want to add the following information to the dialogue.

  1. put the Starting Feed Date (the next date in the schedule for which you don’t have any feed dates entered).
  2. Feed Time: 17:30:01:02
  3. Starting Program Number (enter the very next number for which you do not have any feeds entered).
  4. Ending Program (I generally do about 90 – 100 at a time). Here I did 100. By entering in the ending program, it automatically enters the Total Feeds to Schedule as well as the Starting Order in Season number.
  5. Next select Source: KAKM-RX E < KAKM
  6. Be sure to put Y in for Record?
  7. Put Y Y Y Y Y Y Y in for EVERY DAY.

Is data correct? Answer Yes.

Do you want to continue? Answer Yes again.

Now that you have scheduled the feeds for each weather for the next n days, you’ll want to go ahead and schedule them, followed by adding and attaching the media for them.

2. Schedule Multiple Air Dates

From the main menu select Programs | Air Date Maintenance | Add Air Multiple Air Dates

addmultiair

In the Select Series dialogue enter AKWEA and press OK.

You have now added the Feed Dates and Air Dates it is now necessary to add Media and Attach it for the appropriate amount of time.  You can do this for everything at one time, or do a week at a time. I typically do as many as I can stand to do at one time.

4. Attach Media

To attach the media, one of the fastest ways to do it, is to first do a feed date search, then go down through each one and add the media.

From the main menu select Programs | Program Search Menu | Feed Date Search

FeedDateSearch

Once you have the Feed Date Search dialogue up, enter the following data:

Dates for which you are wanting to search.

Record Date? Y

Feed Source: KAKM – RX < KAKM

Program Code: AKWEA

FeedDateSearchAKWEA

Once the list is up, you will see that there is no media attached for each of the records. To add media highlight the first record in the list and do the following.

FeedDateSearchAKWEA-NoMedia

From the Feed Date Search Results dialogue, press Tools | Media Info (F1). You will get a Media Information dialogue with no media in the list. To add a piece of media do the following.

MediaInfoAdd

From the Media Information menu select, Edit | Insert (F1) and set the following fields:

  • Start by: Record Date
  • End by: Last Air + 1
  • Link Type: Server
  • Then press OK.

AddMediaAttachAKWEA

Once the Add Media Attachment dialogue is up, verify that the Media ID is correct and that the Duration is 00:27:38:00.  If correct, press OK, Yes to is the Data Correct? dialogue. Then press the X in the upper right corner of the dialogue or press Ctrl+F4 to close the Media Information dialogue.

AddMedaiAttachmentAKWEA

Move your selection down as you go repeating the steps above (F1, F1, OK, OK, Yes, CTRL+F4, Down) as you go down the list, verify that the Attached Media column populates with the appropriate media IDs. Yes, it is incredibly repetitive and tedious, but you only do it every three months or so :).
