Filing photos to WordPress

Besides embedding images in stories, you can also file photos that might be useful for future news stories independently.

Log in to WordPress

If you don’t have a login, contact KTOO digital services or an editor

Click on “Media” in the left hand menu

Upload images with one of the following two methods:

  1. Click the “Add New” button at the top and then click “Select Files” to browser your computer
    OR
  2. Just drag and drop one or more photos from your computer into the media library window

Add your caption and alt text

Including attribution and alt text according to KTOO’s style guide

Select any relevant categories

Located beneath the caption on the right (if you want to add categories, check in with digital services first)

Select any relevant tags

Please add new tags sparingly and only when it will help an editor find the image – for example:

  • Someone’s name is not a good tag because it should be in the caption and can be searched
  • A subject that won’t necessarily be in the caption but would be useful to find quickly might be a good caption – e.g., general election 2018

When you’re done, click the “X” in the upper right or use the arrow buttons to go forwards or backwards through the media library to other images.

Changes should be saved automatically. If you’re unsure if your changes were saved, close the image and open it again to check.

If you need to edit more details or something isn’t working with editing the image, click the “Edit more details” link in the lower right to open a separate page with more options.
