Gavel web data interface

The web interface allows you to easily filter names from the old Gavel Font database and automatically fill titles in XPression with those names.

Visit the page

The URL for a control page looks like this:
https://ktoo.media/gavel/data/names/?station=1&slots=20

  • The “station” parameter is an arbitrary ID.
    • You can add new IDs as you want, and even have multiple “stations” in one sequencer view in XPression (in retrospect it should probably be called something different).
    • The only requirement is that station IDs be integers.
  • The number of “slots” only determines how many names/titles you see at once on the web page.
    • The more slots you show, the slower the page will be.
    • The number of slots is only a setting for how many are shown in the interface. Let’s say you decrease the number from 20 down to 10. Slots 11-20 will still be stored in the database and XPression will still be able to see them. You can view/edit them again any time by increasing the “slots” number in the URL.

Select names

Click a dropdown and start typing. The words you type will search all the names and titles in the old Gavel Font database.

  • When you click a name to select it, the XPression title corresponding with that slot in the group you set up will be filled with the name and title.
  • Titles will be filled even if they’re on air.
  • You usually have to click on the title in the sequence view for it to load new data (you don’t have to take it, just select it).
