Technical Video Editing

When editing video for broadcast, here are a few helpful resources on the minimum of things to worry about:

Video Luma/Chroma Limits:

Premiere Pro CC: Video Limiter

Here are things to look for in sound:

Loudness is measured in LKFS, a program shall have similar loudness levels across the show ~-24 LKFS +2/-2 dB. Keep in mind “loudness” — you can download (Win or Mac) this application to verify the overall loudness (either run a  file through it or connect your output into it).

True peaks shall not exceed -2 dB (see diagram below)

Audio phase shall remain consistent across all channels and tracks.

Here’s a great video for analyzing your phase in Adobe Audition:

Audio/Video synchronization (lip sync) will appear to be correct throughout the program. Audio will not lead video by more than one half frame, nor will audio lag video by more than two frames.
