Podcast episode settings

By default, WordPress chooses an audio file or files to put into its podcast feed – this isn’t always right because sometimes you need to choose a specific piece of audio or are using a third party podcast hosting solution.

Important note: WordPress is often a little slow to process audio. If any of the steps below don’t work or seem to be lagging behind, try waiting 30 seconds and refreshing the editing page.

To choose a specific audio file that’s already embedded in the post

In the “Podcasts” box, click “Audio from the post”

Select the audio file you want to use

  • The files in the list are the ones WordPress automatically detects for podcast usage – this screen just gives you the option of manually choosing one instead of letting WordPress pick. If you need to upload a specific file or WordPress doesn’t detect the file properly, see the “Custom audio” option
  • Sometimes it takes WordPress a while to find the audio files in the post. If the list of files is empty or not up to date, try waiting a while (a minute should be more than enough) and refreshing the post editing screen (make sure you save it as a draft first)

Choosing audio that’s not embedded in the post

If you need to upload a file that isn’t in the post or if WordPress absolutely will not recognize the audio from the post (make sure you give it enough time and refresh the page – it takes a while).

Click the “Custom audio” button

Click “Add File” to upload a new file or select one from the media library

To choose a different files, hover over the selected file with your mouse and click the “X” icon on the upper right to remove it from the post (but not delete the file)

To use an embed code from a third-party service

Let’s you use a podcast hosted somewhere else (e.g., Libsyn) for podcast listing pages on KTOO.org (i.e., this embed code will be used for the inline player on the pages that list all the podcast episodes).

Warning: this will do nothing for a KTOO-originated podcast feed – this is intended for situations where you are hosting the audio somewhere else and don’t need KTOO to generate a feed for you.

Click the “Embed code” button

Paste your embed code into the box provided
