Save a screenshot

The easiest way to capture screenshots:

  • Click the print screen key (“PrtScn” – hold down Alt at the same time to capture just the active window)
  • Paste (Ctrl-V) the capture into an image editor like PhotoShop
  • Crop, resize, and save the image

If you don’t have an image editor like PhotoShop, here is another way to do a screen capture:

In Windows, press the windows key or icon on the lower left to open the start menu.

StartMenu

Type “snip” into the search box and select “Snipping Tool” from the search results

SnippingTool

To capture a whole window, select “Window Snip” under the “New” dropdown.

For a screenshot from a YouTube video:

  • Make sure the video is maximized
  • Click “Window Snip” at the moment you want to capture. YouTube will pause playback when you click “Window Snip”.
  • To try again, click “Cancel,” find the right spot in the video, start playback, and try clicking “Window Snip” again

SnipWindow

Click the window you want to capture (when you hover your mouse over it, the window will highlight in red and any other visible windows will fade)

Click the save icon

SnipSave

In the “Save As” popup, enter a filename. If you are saving for the web, under “Save as type” select “JPEG file”
